#5 Nutcracker
January 5th, 2009

If you’re not a procrastinator like me, you packed up your Christmas stuff long ago.
I packed up this nutcracker many Christmases ago, right after buying it. It was never taken out again because….well, it’s a long story. But the bottom line is that I’m Jewish and we don’t celebrate Christmas.
Happy New Year.

I’d keep this. It doesn’t take up that much space, and if you have any ballet-obsessed kids in your life (or might someday) this will become a treasured item. I am jewish too and my mom gave nutcrackers to my twins this year for hanukah – and they keep saying over and over that it was their best present of the year.
If you don’t use it, why take up the space for a possible “someday”.
You can always get another one if your kids just happen to love the ballet.
I say give it to me because I had one just like this when I was a little girl and have been on a search for another. I have no idea what happened to the one from my childhood, but now that I have a home of my own I can’t imagine my Christmas decorations without one.
I don’t want this personally, but you didn’t have a choice for donate to charity, which is what I think you should do with this. I’m sure a local thrift store could make a bit of cash on this.
My 6 yr old daughter has been begging for a Nutcracker and I have been trying to find her a nice secondhand one.
another item you could sell. i would wait to sell because christmas season is over but you can def put it in a sell pile.
Although I think Astacia or Mindy probably deserve it more, I’d like to have this so I can give it to my aunt who collects nutcrackers.

Thank you for all the suggestions—and I want to clarify that most of what I am clearing out is being DONATED. The items posted are not going into the mass donation because they’re different or special for some reason. Ideally I would like to GIVE them to people who want/need/deserve to have them.
I’m glad Anna mentioned the other commenters in her comment. No polls have closed yet and already I’m starting to stress over how to decide. It’s really helpful to hear what YOU think.
Great website and concept. I have this nutcracker as well. He hasn’t been out of the attic since my daughter was five. She’s thirteen now. LOL
Maybe you should give it to me. Much as I’m trying to declutter, one exception is Christmas decorations. My kids love Nutcrackers and my 4-year old son likes to act out the battle between the Mouse King and the Nutcracker Prince in our living room. As a former ballerina, I’m kind of into Nutcrackers.
I think it is a great idea to downsize and help others.I have begun doing this since reading your plan.I actually came across your site while looking for a nutcracker.Every year, our business donates to a Silent Santa organization in our city. They give needy children, families, whatever they have on their list,if possible. This would help out the cause. If you decide to donate it to them, contact me @ debsl@ptd.net.Our co.site is ssptv.com-TV Station in Hazleton,Pa-Sam-Son Productions. We stream all our shows,live,24/7 @ the ssptv.com.I hope you will consider us.Thanks!
i think you should put Mindy Lubomski, Astacia, Anna O’Reilly, Erica and Deborah Lesante’s names in a hat and pick one.
Also, while The Nutcracker Suite is considered a Christmas ballet, I think the nutcracker itself is non-denominational.
Any opinions on this?
You can send it to me
My 6 year old daughter LOVES the ballet The Nutcracker – it’s become a Christmas tradition for us. She’s also taken ballet class herself and loves it. My son saw a nutcracker just like this one at the hair salon recently and wanted to take it home! Too cute.
My son LOVES the Nutcrackers. I am Jewish too but my husband is not so we do Christmas. My hubby is always looking for cool Nutcrackers as his grandfather loved them & has since passed away.
Have to say I am really starting to like Annette’s hat idea above. Or maybe a vote by everyone EXCEPT me. What do you think?
