Cluttercast: Lederhosen

I was 19. It was my first trip to Europe and I bought an authentic pair of lederhosen because…..it seemed like the thing to do when you’re in Austria.
Don’t even bother wondering if I ever wore them. Of course not. But for some inexplicable reason, of all the amazing things I acquired, THIS is what I kept. I just had a feeling that someday the lederhosen would come in handy.
30 years later, that day arrived. My son’s school was putting on The Sound of Music and they put out a call for lederhosen to costume the von Trapp family. I felt very righteous, thinking about all those organizer types who advise people like me to get rid of anything you haven’t used in the last year.
The night of the show I settled into my folding chair at the school. My son was a 3rd grader; he was in the play for maybe 30 seconds. But I sat through all 4 performances in order to see my lederhosen finally make their appearance on a human being.
They never did. The von Trapp boys were all wearing lederhosen. But not mine.
It’s maybe appropriate to mention that the last song the von Trapp family sings is called “So long, Farewell, Auf Weidersehen, Goodbye.”
(Measurements: 27 ” waist; 34″ hips)

okay chica… you’ve got to lay off the ‘organizer’ types because THIS lil’ professional organizer has a dirndl{sp?} in my cedar chest! and by no means will the lil’ beauty fit me EVER again… but someday my daughter may adore it and I AM not getting rid of it until she outgrows it…did i mention she’s only 6.
so girlfriend… i’m singing “raindrops on roses + whiskers on kittens” because that’s how this professional organizer rolls
is it wrong to want the lederhosen to go my dirndl? could be a really cute halloween get up for my daughter and some future unknowing boyfriend to wear to a party!!!
Hysterical post! Now I feel so much better about not relinquishing my cowgirl peasant skirt when my daughter cleaned out my closet.
haha. i went to europe at 19 also with my college friends. i noticed that only the girls with the great legs purchased those suckers…so naturally, i opted for the tie-dyed shirts of Spain…thanks for the memories!
And I bought a caftan in Tangiers in the mid-80s. I’ve never worn it.
