Chinese killer whales
January 21st, 2009

I remember buying these balls on a trip to Chinatown because at the time my kids were enamored with killer whales. But even though these balls make a musical sound when you shake them, they’re heavy and fancy, and not really children’s items. So I put them away and never took them out of their pretty box.
I don’t know their significance, or what you’re supposed to do with them. I also don’t know if they’re meant to be good luck–and whether or not it would be better luck to keep them, or give them away.

Darryle: I have a very similar beautiful box with two iron balls in them that someone once gave me as a gift. They’re called Baoding Iron Balls and the pair of balls (one sounds high and one sounds low according to the directions) and “it is a treasure necessary for the aged to build up physical strength and remove diseases.” It has something to do with the ten fingers connected to nerve points, and the way you hold the balls, etc. Oh, hell, the directions go on for thre pages — TOSS ‘EM.

I am not claiming to have any personal knowledge of where to buy such a thing or how to use it, but I will say that SOME PEOPLE say that those are sold in $ex shops as Be.n. W.a. Ba.lls., and that they are supposed to be….well, nevermind. But it’s hard to tell the scale, and maybe these are a different size than those.
Darryle, you roll them around in your hand..sorta finger to finger.
It helps with strength and dexterity…I’ve heard it’s shiatsu for the points in your hand.
Hello there, I just bloghopped over here from Katie Schwartz’ blog. You should give them to me because they look like they’d be great for keeping nervous hands busy and my daughter who has ADD has been looking for something that will help her stop scratching at her face when she’s anxious.
Build strength? Remove diseases? SEX SHOPS?? These balls are WAY more interesting than I thought!!
I am taking a break from painting my dining room, and what do I find these chinese balls – well my new room is being done in an oriental fashion, I would love to have them. Thank you Terri
